Our Rescue Volunteers

Just before home time two of our frisbee's went sailing over the playground fence.  They are a class favourite so the idea of not retrieving them was just not going to happen.  With some discussion the plan was put in place, we would retreive them in the morning by going on a rescue mission.
At first there was shock and disbelief and the question " what will we do now"?

Rescue them!
With great excitement that is what we did.

We noticed a few things along the way, buds growing and 4 wheeler tracks.  Andrew thought perhaps they might belong to a monster truck

We even found some shadows but most importantly we found the frisbee's.  Our rescue mission was successful.

Of course on the way back we had to check out the secret Fort.
And smell the pungent odour of skunk once again and then it was back to business as usual.

Mission complete.  Let's have some fun!

The children showed great responsibility

Happy Birthday Mrs C!

Andrew let the cat out of the bag that it's Mrs C's birthday tomorrow. Since it will be her day off from school, we decided to surprise her today with some birthday treats.

Luckily we had some cake mix in the cupboard and we borrowed a few eggs from the breakfast program.

Thanks to Lily for documenting the cooking experience using the iPad.

Mrs C loved her birthday surprise. She even showed us how to turn a cupcake into a sandwich! What a great trick.

Our Earth Day clean up

The children were eager to help clean up Mother Earth this morning in the Green Classroom.  They excitedly did their part to keep our school environment looking beautiful.
Here are a few action shots of our workers.   Happy Earth Day!

We even had time to observe some wonderful changes happening within nature while we were there, blossoms, flowers and some pretend fish.

Have a super earthy weekend and maybe if you have some time do a little part to help us keep Mother Earth clean.

So proud of our Andrew!

Our Andrew is a star!

He's been chosen as this year's Five Counties Children's Centre Ambassador. He has been working hard for a year and a half to overcome speech apraxia, and he is making amazing progress through speech therapy and lots of homework.

Andrew's story is featured in the canvassing brochure this year. Read below about our amazing Andrew!

Did you know that kindergarten students do not receive ANY special education resources through the school board? Special Ed for 3-6 year old students is entirely provided through Five Counties- not in the schools. Waiting for Grade 1 is often too late for some children.

The wait list for Five Counties services is unbelievable. If you have any room in your budget, I hope you'll consider supporting this vital service.

Wonderful Wire

Play dough has been a long standing favourite exploration area in our room and we wondered what might happen if wire were incorporated into the play.
Below are images of children experimenting, manipulating and creating many unique pieces.  They used their fine motor movements and skills to twist, bend, wrap, weave, fold and curl all the while gaining a better understanding of the properties of wire.
The experience was started by introducing wire as a powerful medium that comes from deep within Mother Earth and we will be shaping a part of the earth.

Claire tried wrapping it on her finger to see what the effect would be.

Jordy worked at twisting her wire in a different way.

Lily attempted cutting with wire.

Selena created longer pieces and then shaped them and had them free stand in the play dough.  Ideas  of the hundred acre wood and the Lorax's truffla trees emerge.

Haley created herself earphones with the materials.
Creations of all sorts were being invented by our young artists while gaining an appreciation for metal and it's inspiring properties.

Wire wonderful wire.

In the spring garden

For part two of Forest Friday we headed to the Green Classroom.

What's that hiding under the leaves?

Crocuses have bloomed! Our fall plantings have come to flower.

The soil is warm enough to plant some cold weather crops. Thanks Mrs Jackson for sharing her farmer's secrets and helping the girls plant.

After a long wet and dreary winter, the promise of spring is fulfilled!
